Koh Samui,Thailand - March 2012

Im back...from our short yet a blast Koh Samui getaway. Well it has been since 4th March 2012 sebenarnya. Time is the best reason. Im slotting every chance I have to write this..so bear with me okay...

We didnt get the chance to enjoy their renowned beautiful sandy beaches though...instead..We ventured into the inner part of the island ..well only to the main attractions saje..We had fun...The resort was fine, the people were warm and friendly...Dahlia went for her first elephant ride, and the cabaret show was AWESOME!!!

I intended to go to Sabah for our 1st quarter trip, but since it was too costly, lupakan je lah..So,I booked ourselves to Koh Samui je lah...via GroupOn. Here is a little info about the voucher that we purchased : click here. Its a free sign up!!

From this voucher,we enjoyed the resort on outcropped rocks with panoramic sea and sky view. Oooh..not to mention the 2 infinity pool built on the cliff edge overlooking the sea... .hmmm...such a relaxing atmosphere.Although we were entitled for the 10% discount on spa and restaurants, we did not get the chance to do them...perhaps next time.. The resort is just 20 minutes away from Samui Airport, and totally an easy access to town, some added points on why it is featured in Thailand's 'Unseen Paradise' tourism campaign.

For a '4 days 3 nights' stay....here were our itinerary...

Day 1 - 1st March 2012 : FY3608 fleet flew us to Samui Airport.
Day 2 - 2nd March 2012 : Safari City Tour + Elephant Trek
Day 3 - 3rd March 2012 : Samui by Night : Seafood Dinner + Cabaret Show
Day 4 - 4th March 2012 :  FY3609 fleet flew us back to Subang Airport.

Learning points
#1. The flight took about 2 hours. Not too long thank god..
#2. Halaal food are not many but you can find them in Lamai as most muslim population resides there. And FYI, the only one mosque on the island is also in Lamai .
#3. Signage and wordings are mostly in Thai.It was hard for us to even buy a loaf of bread, we need to scout for those with English and Halaal labels.Luckily, there are few huts of Tesco.Suka ya amat okay....
#4. Renting a bike is the ultimate solution if you dont mind the hot sun. It was very convenient for us to move about rather than renting a car. Well, the roads there in Samui aren't as wide as what we have here in Malaysia... Oh ya, my husband told me that you dont even need to produce motorbike license to rent a bike, your passport number sudah suffice. And we had our bike rented from our hotel saje...easy peasy...
#5 Even though Samui is just geographically 228.7 kmsq , riding a bike to cover the whole island is not a good idea (for me lah since ada Dahlia). Further more, poor maps description and signage too.
#6 Language is the main barrier. 90% of them are not English literate. Kalau ada yang boleh cakap satu ayat lengkap tu kira dah marveles. The funny thing was...our English pun terpaksa jadi as deplorable as theirs.
#7 Handcraft lovers would enjoy shopping in Samui. They are rather cheap Shaped sabun lah, those beach cotton wear la..decorative items la..t-shirts la..straw hats lah...they are pretty but none that I would want to have for my own. No offense.
#8 Thailand, be it anywhere on its land ...are packed with foreigners. On the beach, resorts, pubs, hutan, restaurants..every inch!!! We were told that the Israelis ranked the highest followed by the Russians..Nothing to be alarmed ..saje je bagi tau....
#9 Seafood delicacies that you MUST NOT miss out!!We went for our fine dining at this place called "The Fishermans' Village" where rows of fine restaurants offers varieties of seafood dish. From grilled lobster,to steamed shark to even wok squids...yummmiehhhh....
#10 Oh and yes..Thailand is also renowned for its 'Sticky Rice with Mango'...did not try that but we tried out their 'pancake'...For this too you need to find for a'halaal' ones tau...
#11 Not to puji so much, but they are very punctual when it comes to timing. Unlike some tardy 'Malaysians'. And yes, they sounds so polite too..."madam..."..."your pick up will be alliwing (arriving) at six thirly( thirty) madamm" (if only I can mock the voice tone as well in here ;p)
#12 Its a beautiful place to visit. Moderate island climate makes it the best spot to have your mind relaxed. Nice reserved forest and the tranquil sea. Such a bless..if only the government do something to make the system a little better and more organized...for their people's sake.
#13 You can do your currency change at most of their local banks here. No worry.
#14 ANYWAY...In total, we spent less than RM4k for our trip. I would say it was worth the cash and time spent

The main reason why I wanted to come here...

Sawadika......come on, lets have a ride here in Koh Samui....

USM - Day 4 Last day in Samui

4 days in Koh Samui...do I feel the urge of coming here again in the near future??..yes but not as much as going back to Maldives... ;)  On our last day here, do enjoy some of the pictures okay...takat tunggu for boarding je ...nothing much to blog out ..Oh perhaps as you scroll down, you will see one tiny issue on what damage had FireFly done to us... :(

"Asal kedai kasut , dia berhenti nak jenguk..penat la Papa macam ni.."

Its an open concept....

A little memory from Samui Airport...

While waiting for our call....we scooped couple bowl of ice cream to kill the time...

Papa : You cant have them Dahlia...those are mine.....
Dahlia : Ummmm ...nak jugak...

Dahlia : Ha...kan...

Halal Swensen's Ice Cream...no doubt ;)

Tak payah spoon la papa...Dahlia guna cara melayu je...guna tangan...

"Papa..please stop with the pictures, can you?"

Si gendut gendang gendut

Had some quick snap at the beautiful garden in front of the departure building...

Nani : Budak jakun dapat tanah....

"Ok...lets go Dahlia...thats our flight..calling us to get on board..."

Could you spot the dented bag? Grrrrr...little did we know that we could actually get a replacement of similar luggage IF we lodge the report immediately after checking-out..Ahh...we had no time, we were rushing to the FireFly counters for seats refund. Ape kejadah dah pergi and balik nak seat refund pula Lela ni??Haaa....itu la..you all tak tau...

Being a typical mother lah kan...nak leg room besar bagai, when I purchased the tickets online, I had chosen the front seats for the return flights. Little did I know that kalau travel with infants, we are not allowed to be seated at the emergency exit. Mana lah I nak tau?!?!?!There were no message prompted when I did the purchase..ngok ngek punya online reservation...Dah la kena bayar extra for seats choices..apa punya business...nak jadi macam AirAsia?Or maybe someday nak recline kerusi pun will be on additional charges.. *mode marah*

Dengan our luggage rosak, dengan seats refund ....

This was my 2nd time flying with FireFly, first timer for both Helmi and Dahlia...dah macam-macam hal...Do improve on your service delivery ya FireFly....so that I can keep on flying with you guys in the future....

USM - Day 3 Pool and Cabaret

Nothing much on our agenda on this day. We spent the morning in the pool and went on riding around the town, sight seeing...eh tipu..jalan-jalan cari makan sebenarnya...bulor kan dah berendam....
My baby Dahlia in her rainbow swimming suit..*Dahlia..peruuuttt tak ingat*

Cutey pie darling ready to dive in!!!

Si kenit in her 'yellow cab'

The view from here was aesthetically very pleasing...serious!!!

The pool are segregated into 3 sections by depth. Since si anak kecik melonjak-lonjak mahu lepas, and since both Helmi and I are not taller than 6 feet, mahu memegang si bulat di tempat yang dalam adalah suatu yang amat mencabar. So mandi je la tempat junior..
*no you cant do kuak lentang,katak,rama-rama,dragonfly or what so ever style...takat lutut je airnya*

Hmm....Itu pun kalau boleh nak lepas!!!

The sea...such a picturesque kan?

By noon we were all set for our next adventure...heheh..adventure la sangat...eh hello...naik motor ok..sangat adventurous tau! Its kind of easy for you to differentiate any halal stalls in here. Just look out for the moon and the star sign..like this one in here..

Sorry but Im not able to tell you the name of this shop..tengok lah ha...how la to understand?!?!?!Yang lagi best, we first noticed this shop yesterday on our way to the Island Safari head office. We saw it for few times during the day...mysteriously, approaching Maghrib, puas we went back and forth along this road to locate this shop tapi tak jumpa-jumpa...Not convinced with  Helmi's mystical thinking (konon), we eventually found it....
"Kedai tu kena guna-guna kot yang, ada orang sengaja buat biar customer tak nampak kedai tu"..
Eh takde mananya....mata kita yang tak nampak dengan terang...tu ha dia kedainya....

Nothing fancy but pretty tidy and clean shop

Their "noodle soup"....hmmm...did not expect this at all...does not taste that bad la tapi to go for another serving?hmm..no thank you...kuey teow sup kicap and telur rebus...apa ke digulung-gulung plak the kuey teow tu.?!?!?...I cant recall how much was it, but no matter how cheap pun, im not coming here again..

Makan tak puas...you guessed it right!!!!!we went on to another halal place right after..

Fareast's Restaurant is located about 5 minutes drive from the Samui Airport. Here you can find dishes that we are all similar with ...Nasi Goreng, Tom Yum, and so on...I would rank this the best place compared to the other 2 halal places we went before.

1. Near by the Bangkok Hospital
2. The 'yakkkke' noodle soup shop

No matter where, I would still order myself  'air kelapa' ...the perfect natural sweetness over rated the rest available drinks...

Even Dahlia loves it..sampai ke hampas dimakannya..

The big 'halal' signboard at the tree...you wont missed it!!!!

Lets take a quick tour on how the island looks like.....

One of the restaurant by the road side..

Lots of art shops too..

Fuel are rather expensive here in Thailand...about RM4 per liter for Ron95...

OK dah..sangat 'a quick tour' kan..hehehe..naik motor kan..
agak-agak la nak snap photos sambil pegang Dahlia...
Lets move on to our night agenda shall we...We had our night on a package too..Bought it from the same agent where we bought our Elephant Safari package...

Samui by Night : Seafood Dinner + Cabaret Show receipted us at RM500 in total..

This fine place called "Starfish and Coffee" is located by the seaside..well..is was dark though...tapi the lights along this stretch enhanced the ambiance. Terasa macam kat Paris pula..(belum pergi lagi dah tahu...ceh) ....

Morrocon look-alike ambiance ...full of reservations...Suka deme ni makan tom yum..siap tambah nasi...

There were people playing paper lanterns too ...macam  in that animated movie ..Tangled...

While enjoying the lit paper lantern floating in the air.....Dahlia kept Papa busy....

SEEFOOD!!!Can you see them all???We had siakap, squid, prawns..and kangkung...
yummmy yummy yummy...

Mejanya kecik sangat!!!!Tak muat lauk!!!

Dahlia had herself a squid to 'play with'...
Perut kenyang baru 'next supermodel' for a family picture... :)

While waiting for our ride to arrive, we took a walk along the Fisherman's Village stretch..

And tried out some fancy sunnies...did not notice the small sign saying   "NO PHOTO" ..Blame it on the shop owner lah..siapa suruh letak kat tangan patung tu?

Fisherman's Village ni stretches way beyond Samui and being the most elegant and well-preserved place on Samui, no wonder la sangat ramai orang di sini even at wee hours pun.. Lined by old wooden Chinese shop-houses (it is something like our 'Jonker Street' in Melaka la macam tu..),sandwiched with a few modern buildings tapi still retains its distinctly Mediterranean feel. I heard it used to be a French's small military camp long years ago..

Cute eh...agak kesal sebab I did not get them...Mana taknya..terkedu bila as I was about to  analyze that thing, terus Helmi said "Ha..nak gantung kat mana ke"...terus la ai merajuk...

Merajuk je beli makanan...merajuk je beli makanan...how la I tak gained berat badan?!?!!?
This so-called pancake is quite famous here in Samui. But of course,  you need to find with the halal logo ones ok..

Our Chocolate+Coconut pancake...

It tasted like a very thin roti canai with some nuttela wrapped like a murtabak, and he garnished it by sprinkling the condensed milk and chocolate syrup on top.

Ok..sedap!!!Dont mind having another one!!! ;)

Lets!!!Just in time for the cabaret show!!!!

Our comfortable ride from Euro Asia Tours..

Believe it or not, this was at 10PM and her eyes were wide open!!!
I did not know where exactly this place was...we were chit chatting with our driver, Don (I think his name is Don)...and didnt realized tiba-tiba je dah sampai....

Short opening to kindle the night...

Their Christina Aguilera .....

Their Britney Spears......

Participants from the floor were cool enough to try out those mini dresses!!!

Miming je tu okayyy.....tapi facial expression sangat convincing...

Their Cher......

and this one....Their Whitney Houston!?!!?!..... hehehheh...

It was a blast night!!!! :) Dahlia was behaving well that night. No crying. No whining. No tantrum. In fact, she went on to do her own dance at the isle while the dancers were dancing on stage..and applauded when everybody else were..comel mami tu tau...and yeah...since it was almost midnight...towards the end of the show, while  'Whitney Houston' was singing ... Dahlia dozed off...Maybe 'Whitney Houston''s voice was too ugly kot.. and lipstick putih?!?!?! What the?!?! ;p
